“Mom we have new rules in school just for four days!”… that’s what my seven-year- old boy told me the moment he stepped out of the bus.
They were informed that KHDA will visit their school from Feb 9-12 and these are the “temporary” rules:
1. Do not bring big school bags, use a backpack. Leave your books at home.
Why?? Because the school don’t want KHDA to see the kids bringing their almost 10kg worth of books and notebooks everyday. The school doesn’t have any bookshelves.
2. Never throw your garbage in the classroom bin. Keep them inside your bags. Why?? Because KHDA might see trash overflowing from their classroom bin. Not a good sight.
3. Do not use the toilet until breaktime. Why? Because the school doesn’t have janitors assigned to keep their toilet floors clean.
4. Review. Why? So kids are already familiar with the topic during recitation. KHDA will be impressed. So here’s what my boy observed: “Mom why are we pretending in school? It would be nice if we don’t carry our heavy bags everyday and leave the books in school instead. Why are we asked to keep our empty juice drinks inside our bags? Are we not supposed to keep dirty stuff? I thought cleanliness is important, I’m making my bag dirty.
“And the canteen, they are selling fruits and salads but nobody bought it. I went there looking for some chips, but the lady told me to come back next week. Guess what’s the best thing??? Our teachers are so nice. They don’t yell, they ask nicely if we understood the lessons. I hope KHDA visits us everyday and the rules will stay.”
What can I say?
